Engage. Educate. Empower. Since 1999, these are the words that have inspired Catholic Charities of Central Texas in our daily commitment to improve the lives of families in need across our 25 county service region. The mission of Catholic Charities is: People of faith serving anyone in need by strengthening families and promoting respect for human dignity and life.
Last year alone there were nearly 8,000 confirmed victims of child abuse or neglect in our 25 county service region. The estimated direct and indirect cost of abuse/neglect for one individual over a lifetime is $210,012. In contrast, it costs Catholic Charities about $1,380 per year to educate and prepare a new parent through the Gabriel Project Life Center. For a fraction of the intervention cost, we can help parents give their children a safe and healthy start at life.
Equipping parents with the resources they need to create stable families has immediate and long-term benefits. We work one-on-one with families to identify problem areas, build skills, and connect them to services that will address their specific risk factors. We provide culturally-competent services to families to show them genuine love, lend a listening ear, and walk with them on their journey to give birth to healthy children.
This giving season help us give 700 children a health start at life by investing in the Gabriel Project Life Center:
$100- Host a Graduation Ceremony for for new parents through our Earn Why You Learn curriculum.
$250-Provide two counseling sessions for new parents as they navigate life changes.
$500- Equip a family with basic necessities to welcome their child home (diapers, crib, clothing and car seat).
$1,380- Sponsor a child for their first year of life to assure that their parents have all the tools and resources needed to achieve their family goals.
