The Passaic Neighborhood Center for Women -- a collaborative effort between the Diocese of Paterson, NJ and its religious communities -- exists to provide a place for the women of Passaic to meet, share and grow in a peaceful and safe environment. Here, women can express their needs, discover community resources to fulfill their needs, and strengthen themselves and their families through educational growth. Since opening its doors in September 2013, the Center has seen over 8,000 visits from the women of Passaic, who come to the Center for English, quilting, crocheting and art classes, urban gardening, immigration workshops and assistance in other areas of their lives. The Center also operates a diaper bank.
Currently, we are seeking $7,000 to purchase 4 new desktop computers, 6 new laptop computers, USB headsets with microphones, USB optical mice and a new computer table in order to sustain the Rosetta Stone portion of our English Learning Program. In 2015, the Center received a grant to purchase Rosetta Stone software to supplement its English instruction. We purchased a total of five sets of Rosetta Stone software, multiple headphone/microphone sets, three refurbished desktop computers and five refurbished laptop computers. Since then, we have seen over 1300 visits to the Center for Rosetta Stone alone. Because the computers were already used and are now used heavily, they are breaking down frequently. We spend a lot of time troubleshooting our technology issues. The situation with our technology is unsustainable and we feel it warrants the purchase of new equipment, as listed above.
