Sisters of Mount Carmel, New Orleans and Lacombe
of Challenge Funds Remaining
MISSION In line with the Mission and Vision of the Congregation, we, the Sisters of Mount Carmel in Timor-Leste follow Jesus Christ in the Spirit of the prophet Elijah and Mary by our way of contemplation, community and prophetic service lived in the midst of the people. VISION In a nation wounded by injustices and armed conflicts, God calls us to respond through our Carmelite Charism, in restoring the dignity and in uplifting the human spirit of the people of Timor-Leste. OBJECTIVES Evangelization means reconciliation and healing through: Christian formation, pastoral care, health care, livelihood and economic development.
Our immediate needs are for classroom supplies and equipment for the catechism classes in Timor-Leste and additional funds for their feeding program. One of the ministries of the Sisters of Mount Carmel in Timor-Leste is teaching catechism to the children in the villages. They do not have a classroom so they have their classes in their chapel, without desks and the benches are not suitable for writing (see pictures). Since most of the people in the villages are poor, children do not have proper nutrition which is why the sisters need funds for their feeding program every Sunday after their catechism classes.
