Sisters of the Holy Family, New Orleans

Twenty years before the Civil War of the United States, and before it was legal for a Religious Congregation of Color to exist, Henriette Delille founded the Sisters of the Holy Family in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our community was founded on the rich tradition of Catholicism celebrated in the unique cultural and faith perspective of the African American community. The charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family, true to divine inspiration of our Foundress, is to be a prophetic witness in proclaiming the Gospel message of compassion, liberation, healing, and hope to all people, with a preferential option for those of African American descent. For the past 172 years, we have continued our mission of serving the poor and disenfranchised, the sick and the elderly through education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, prison ministry, and housing for low-income senior citizens.
Celebrating our 175 anniversary, we are raising funds to continue our mission of serving the poor and disenfranchised, the sick and the elderly through education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, prison ministry, and housing for low-income senior citizens for another 175 years.
