The mission of the Special Needs Ministry of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is to serve and support parishes in facilitating opportunities for a relationship with Christ by ensuring the fullest participation possible in the Catholic faith for all parishioners regardless of ability.
The Office of Special Needs Ministry, in collaboration with the staff of Camp Tekawitha, a retreat center owned by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, will offer a weekend experience to families who have a child with a disability. The weekend will be structured so that parents and their children can have together time and separate time (respite) to relax, have fun, and grow in their faith. The cost of the camp will be about $125 per person. We are hoping to serve at least 20 families (depending on size). The Office of Special Needs Ministry is seeking $5000 in order to offer scholarships to families who would like to attend but cannot afford the full cost.
