Limestone County has one Catholic church, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Mexia. It is the mission of the St. Mary Continuing Christian Education (CCE) program to develop the God-given gifts of every child in the county. Our students will become leaders in their individual communities, and with a Catholic education they can become leaders with a strong faith, heart, and spirit. Through the St. Mary CCE program, they will help grow the Catholic faith in Limestone County and throughout the State of Texas.
Over the past four years, our CCE enrollment has grown from 250 to 330 students. By the grace of God, our capital campaign has made it possible to construct a new building for our growing program. Unfortunately, the building has taken most of our resources and we need help to purchase classroom furniture and materials.
Many of our classrooms have student tables constructed from scrap wood. More than half of the classrooms do not have student desks or tables. The students do all of their work in their laps. Only three classrooms have televisions with DVD players, and those TVs were supplied by the teachers. Only two classrooms have teacher desks, and most have no filing cabinet. Our teachers donate most of the materials for their classrooms.
All of the money from the #iGiveCatholic campaign will go towards the purchase of textbooks and classroom furniture. The furniture we have chosen is modest, not extravagant, and will last us many years. We are a frugal parish and will use the funds wisely.
