St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Mission (Erwin)

St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Mission is more than a Mission in formation, while moving towards being a parish some day. It is a community of people, part of the Body of Christ, the Church, who have one mission. Our mission, a mission given to all Baptized in Christ Jesus, is to reach out to others. Here in Unicoi County, we stand as Catholic visible witnesses to the presence of Christ. We are also part of the visible presence of Christ, as members of the Diocese of Knoxville. We began with a mission mindset and continue to follow that mission goal. We welcome and invite everyone to be a part of our family and join us in our daily mission to be the presence of Christ. Our visible witness to the presence of Christ, follows the five Glenmary Home Missioners categories of mission theology: 1) Our local witness is informing a worshiping community which gathers around the altar on Sunday, for the celebration of the Mass. 2) Be a bridge between the Catholic Tradition of Christianity and the Protestant Traditions within Unicoi County. 3) Reach out to the needs of people within our local community in financial needs. 4) Our adults and teens reach out and invite people who have not been attending a church, to visit and be a part of our Mission. We also provide an outreach ministry to the 1000's of hikers, along the Appalachian Trail. 5) We are very much connected with the larger Catholic Church. Our teens, adults, and staff are involved in leadership positions in the Diocese and Deanery.
We are in need of any money donations to help build our multi-purpose building. We have a piece of property that currently only has a pavillion. At the moment, we celebrate our Mass and hold all our events and classes downstairs in a basement, that is not nearly enough room to accomodate our families and children. Our members are doing their best to raise money through many fundraisers and contribute money themselves -- however, we still have not raised even half the money. With your donation, whether it is tiny, small, large or HUGE -- we can be closer to raising the amount of money needed. This multi-purpose building is only a small part of what is needed to be built on our property, but it will certainly be bigger than what we have now. We thank you for any donation you are able to give to help construct a multi-purpose building where we can all come together and worship in the Name of the Lord.
