The mission of the Good Samaritan Ministry (Good Sams) is to provide immediate financial assistance to those experiencing dire circumstances while connecting them to case management agencies that can provide long-term solutions. Good Sams helps families and children in crisis. Our assistance stabilizes a volatile situation, and therefore, allows time for planning a lasting solution. Our intent is to give hope, real aid and a plan using valid resource referrals to every person who walks through our doors. This:
• benefits the family in crisis
• helps utilize community referral programs to their capacity
• while growing a vibrant community of volunteers who have lived poverty through the eyes of our clients and have a working understanding of the barriers preventing stability.
Our ability to assist is directly tied to community donations including Catholic Church tithes, individual donors, foundations, community fund-raisers and grants. One main source of funding, a grant program funded by the St. Tammany Parish Public Health Millage has been discontinued as of calendar year 2018. Our current need is to replace those funds of $60,000.
